In this post-COVID-19 world, where digital technologies are set to play an even more decisive role in socio-economic development, the Republic of Djibouti is more than ever committed to successfully achieving its digital transformation, which is essential for its economic growth and for maintaining its position as a technological hub in East Africa, as outlined in our national strategy Vision Djibouti 2035.
It is with this objective in mind that the Ministry of Communication, in charge of Posts and Telecommunications, in partnership with Djibouti Télécom: D-MONEY (Digital Mobile Money) and the Centre for Technology and Innovation for Development (CTID), organized, from December 14 to 16, 2020, at Djibouti Palace Kempinski, for the first time, the DJIBOUTI FINTECH FORUM.
This is an event that is part of the AFRICA FINTECH FORUM TOUR which, across 23 countries, aims to promote the digital economy and to place financial technologies at the heart of development policies and strategies. This event also aims to enable the establishment of a discussion platform on the concrete measures to be implemented in order to launch the country’s digital transformation through a financial technology (Fintech) ecosystem. This forum will highlight the role of Djibouti as a regional technological hub and the tremendous potential of new technologies for the country’s economic development.
Finally, it should be noted that as part of the forum, a Startup competition “Djibouti Fintech Challenge” was launched by CTID, co-organizer of the said event, with the aim of stimulating the creativity and innovation of young Djiboutians.
To this end, the 3 best solutions focused on financial technology will be selected, thus facilitating access to financial services and monetary transactions within the framework of promoting financial inclusion through digital means.
